The First Phase of Hollard’s Etchguard pilot has come to an end, and the results mark an exciting step forward in proactive risk mitigation for our clients and Broker Partners.
Initially launched as an innovation‑led pilot, EtchGuard was designed to combat the rising theft rates of high‑risk Toyota models by permanently etching key vehicle components with their unique identification details.
This simple but powerful deterrent makes stripped parts far harder to resell and significantly boosts recovery success when theft does occur.
What we achieved in the pilot phase:
were offered free professional etching as part of the rollout.
Installations were quick, at approximately 30 minutes per vehicle, performed at designated Hollard facilities.
Brokers gained another value‑add tool to offer clients in theft‑sensitive regions, contributing to improved risk selection and reduced potential losses.

What’s next?
While the first phase of the pilot has primarily focused on the etching of vehicle glass, we are closely monitoring emerging theft trends across the motor portfolio. Consequently, in response to the growing incidence of headlamp theft, discussions are underway to assess whether the EtchGuard solution could be expanded to include the marking of vehicle headlights. This forms part of our broader commitment to proactive risk mitigation and to exploring innovative, practical interventions that help reduce claim frequency and protect our customers.
